1. Immunotherapy also known as "hyposensitization" involves giving injections of allergens in gradually increasing doses over a long period. This incremental increase of allergens causes the immune system to become less sensitive, probably by causes production of blocking anti body, which reduces the symptoms of allergy when allergen is encountered in future.
2. Currently it is only immuno modulatory treatment available which has the potential to alter the course of the disease and bring about a significant decline in symptoms and medication requirements of allergy patients.
3. IT, under proper medical supervision is reasonably safe. |

4. Various studies around the world have proved its efficacy and safely and now it is recommended as the first line of treatment in allergy diseases wherever possible.
5. The benefit of IT seem to begin usually 6 months to 1 year after starting treatment though for optimal results the treatment should be continued for around 3-5 years.
